Helping Mission‑Driven Organizations Tell Their Story With Clarity and Purpose

Many organizations do important work — but struggle to explain it clearly, consistently, or in a way that resonates. I help mission‑driven nonprofits, foundations, and small businesses sharpen their message, strengthen their visibility, and tell their story with purpose.

My work blends narrative strategy, editorial clarity, and place‑based storytelling. Whether you’re communicating a conservation initiative, shaping a cultural or community narrative, or stewarding a long‑term legacy, I help you translate complex ideas into language that builds trust and inspires action.

From content development and thought leadership to messaging frameworks and partnership communications, I work with clients to create stories that feel grounded, authentic, and aligned with their mission.

Let’s connect—and turn your story into the exposure it deserves.

About

I’m a writer, strategist, and narrative consultant who works at the intersection of conservation, culture, and legacy. For more than 30 years, I’ve helped mission‑driven organizations, families, and creative estates articulate who they are, why they matter, and how their stories connect to place.

My work is grounded in place‑based storytelling — the belief that landscapes, communities, and histories shape the way we understand ourselves and the work we do. Whether I’m helping organizations communicate the urgency of conservation, shaping the public story of a cultural legacy, or supporting place‑based community projects, my goal is always the same: to translate complex missions into narratives that resonate.

I began my career in journalism at Maine Times, followed by leadership roles in marketing for two Maine‑based natural foods companies. I later served as director of communications for the Chewonki Foundation, where I deepened my commitment to environmental storytelling and nonprofit strategy. In 2010, I received a Golden Arrow Award from the Maine Public Relations Council.

Today, I partner with nonprofits, conservation groups, cultural institutions, and small businesses to develop clear, compelling communications — from editorial strategy and thought leadership to websites, one‑pagers, press materials, and long‑term narrative frameworks. I especially love working with organizations and individuals whose work strengthens communities, protects the natural world, or preserves creative and cultural heritage.

In a Noisy Media Landscape, Good Writing Cuts Through

Before I worked in public relations, I was a journalist—trained to spot what makes a story newsworthy, to ask sharper questions, and to translate complex issues into clear, compelling narratives. That foundation still guides my work with organizations and nonprofits today, especially as the communications landscape grows more crowded and more digital by the day. …

Why AI Can’t Replace Good Public Relations

Artificial intelligence is reshaping nearly every corner of modern work, and communications is no exception. Tools that summarize, draft, analyze, and automate are now part of the daily workflow. They’re fast, efficient, and—when used thoughtfully—remarkably helpful. But here’s the truth I see every day in my work with mission‑driven organizations, founders, and leaders: AI can …
